(Haz clic aquí si prefieres ver esta información en español)
Students may either submit their portfolio (see link on how to take good pictures of your work) and artist statement electronically to: [email protected] and [email protected]
OR
Students may sign up for a time to meet on Zoom with the high school and/or middle school art teacher(s) to screen share their portfolio and discuss their work, “in person”.
The portfolio is a critical part of the audition process for students applying to Springfield Conservatory of the Arts. A portfolio shows your strengths and potential as a visual artist. It is an opportunity to display your best efforts. The following guidelines will help you assemble a competitive portfolio. A neat and attractive presentation is extremely important. It tells the reviewing committee that you have taken care of your work and that you are proud of it.
2) Bring your sketchbooks and preliminary drawings
3) Do not include work that you have copied from another artist.
4) Most of the work should be done from observation but you may include some work done from imagination or memory
5) You may select works that are thematic to show an in-depth investigation of an idea
6) You may wish to prepare pieces using a variety of media (such as drawing, painting, printmaking, media technology, etc.) to demonstrate your skill with different tools, materials, and techniques.
Artist Statement:
Should include at least 2 paragraphs about who you are as an artist (suggestive points to write about are): why you create art, what inspires you, your art style, who your favorite artists are, etc.). Students are encouraged to include works in progress and explain their progress in artist statement. As in any piece of writing you would submit, the writing component of your audition should be well organized, demonstrate correct sentence structure, spelling, punctuation, and paragraphing.
- Incoming students should Submit 5-10 selected works (2D, 3D, photography, video, animation) that best demonstrate your passion as an artist, accompanied by an artist statement (see below):
- Clean, undamaged, and in good shape
- Unframed
- If you have 3-dimensional work, upload (on phone, computer, tablet or thumb drive)
